Seized engine?
« on: July 19, 2012, 07:14:46 PM »
about a month ago i was in the fiat on way to my folks house and i broke down it seamed to get hot and lose power before cutting out moments before this i hit a big bump gaining some air and thought something had come lose. Towed to the parents place car started up fine oil little low so toped it up but nothing else except for a noise a scalping noise like something inside engine was catching. anyway set off home and i make all of 5 miles before cutting out again. BYT home and the fiat was left on the driveway whilst my land rover took over driving duties. Come back to the fiat today and it turns over really slow wont fire and still making bad scrapping noises which sounds like it comes from the cooling fan. Or is it worse has the low oil damaged the engine? any other ideas of what it could be?

As a test you could just remove the fan belt but if the engine starts do not run it for more than a minute or two. If no noise then you know it is the fan but if you still have it then you are looking at a total engine strip down. The fan however can be sorted out with the engine in place.

when you say you got some air have you checked that you have not dented the sump as this would have possibly pushed the oil feed pipe/strainer  up and could be catching on the crankshaft? just a thought..
