Dynamo bearing
« on: March 06, 2012, 03:46:30 PM »
Hi guys,

any advice on how to get the bearing on the dynamo at the fan-end off the shaft?
The others are easy but this one is STUCK.

Any help appreciated.

Hi Eben,
Someone once told me that if you use a raw-bolt of a similar size as the shaft, through the centre of the bearing, screw it up until it catches the inside bearing race you can drift the bearing out by tapping the centre of the raw-bolt with a small bar and hammer. Also if you can get some heat on the casting that should help ;D

No it's already out of the end casting, but the bearing itself is stuck on the dynamo shaft. The one on the pulley side came off easily.  Obvious thing would be to buy a bearing puller... but want to delay that if possible.  :D

Another alternative is if you have a friendly garage or engineer shop, If your nice to them they may remove it for the price of a drink :P

I ended up clamping the armature in a vice in a specific way so that I could use a chisel stuck behind the bearing and levering on the one end of the vice to "encourage" it off. Saw it on youtube, not a bad idea and no damage.
