FIAT 126 HEAD TROUBLE ?

hello there , ive got a 126 650 engine AIRCOOLED

ive taken the head off and found its cracked , can it be skimmed? or if its cracked can it be fixed ?

or will it need to be replaced ??  as i have a replacment but like a idiot i have managed to snap a bolt off one of the exhaust flanges inside the head .... is there anyway this can be removed??  possible drill it out ????


anyhelp would be great

anyone in leicestershire that could skim a head for me for free that would be excellent

hi richard

where exactly is the crack? any chance of a picture?
how much of the broken stud is protruding from the cylinder head face? Perhaps you could grip it in a vice or weld a nut to it?

Otherwise it should be fairly easy to drill it out, start with a small drill bit something like 1/8" followed by a slightly larger one, try not to drill into the thread area in the head. Plenty of WD40 helps I use an old torq key and a socket wrench to try to start it turning or if you have thread extractors even better!
