Future powerplant for 126!
« on: February 20, 2010, 10:48:21 PM »
It is finally here!
The long wait is over,Fiat will in a year start selling the 2 cyl engine that has been talked about for many years.
Think of putting one of these in the rear of a 126!
Light,modern engine,and it`s still in the "family"
65 hp normally aspirated, that is super for a standard gearbox, not to much torque so it won`t be ripping it apart.
On the pictures,it looks like they have mated it to a standard fire gearbox,so all we need now is adapterplates and som patience!

It will not fit 126 box, looks like there is a firepattern.
But i think there are a polish company making adapterplate for 1108 fire engine from cinq/seicento.
Will be the same job as Hudson Henry did in his superb 500.

We can buy em`new i guess, but i will sit on the fence and wait until someone crashes the car and sell me the engine a bit cheaper ;D

Actually it has already happend :):) I am on the case from 2008 when they announced this SGE engine will be built. Well, first serie is already ready. I had a chance to talk with some people last year in summer and.... Story goes:
There is a big group of rally teams using 126 and other fiats for racing. They are sponsored by a huge banks, the banks partly belong to gouvermant and gouvermant has interest in a production in Poland (which is already decided, they are currently being done in ev BB-FSM ZTG factory).
Well, all in all they will get some of tthese engines for free... To test, to use and to tell all journalists how good/bad they are. Thing is one of the teams is sponsored by PKO BP BANK, and president of the bank is my best customer and colleague. So we made a deal Aand I can promisse I will have one just few days before cars will go on sale.
I am tempted to take 110BPH one but then gearbox could say bye bye :D
There is also 900cc turbo one (80 or 105BPH) pictured below.
You can all trust me - there is a lot but lots of interest in Poland in these engines. Much more economic, and better for enviroment :) and better fo 126 freaks :D :D :D :D :D

I've been considering this myself [-/

I think that the technology that is involved with this engine would mean sticking with the injection system may mean using the original ECU and the security implications that go along with it such as chipped key and receiver etc. I don't know how easy it would be to set up an after-market ecu given the amount of innovation that has gone into the engine.

Still as you say, there are bound to be a few wrapped around trees at some point in the future. ;)
