Thermostatic Fan switch for the BIS

I might get one of these for my Bis, turns the fan on earlier to aid cooling, what do you guys think?

I am always cautious about some of the aftermarket stuff n . Probabaly better to invest in an overide switch, so that you can always switch on the fan manually just in case the sensor (2 stage radiator fan thermostatic switch) fails to automatically switch on the fan.

I already have an overide switch fitted and it cost virtually nothing.  Only prob I do have with it is that it only operates very slowly, enough to cool mind you, but the two speeds of the automatic sensor are both faster than when I use the overide switch.

The giszmo sounds good if one can adjust the fan speed. My only worry is that the 126 BIS cooling system is unique and so the gizmo may not be compatible. Was it easy to install an override switch? As a consequence of installing an override switch in your 126, does that mean your fan can be switched on manually only? I.e. did you disconnect, the automatic sensor (2 stage radiator fan thermostatic switch), so that the fan is now manually operated?

Easy to install overide switch.  You need 2 wires and a switch, connect one to an earth and the other to a little connection on the fan, when you press the switch this earths it and it comes on, I will take a photo of the connections for you.  You don't need to dissconnect the auto fan switch the manual works along with the auto.

The reason I like the idea of the thermostatic switch is that it is auto, you could set it to come on at about 70oc and away you go, saves me pressing a little switch on my dash, lazy i guess.

Many, many thanks. Although my thermostatic sensor still works well, it is good to have a back-up system like an override switch, as I have no idea how old or whether my standard thermo. sensor has been replaced in the past. I shall have a go installing one when the weather improves. If you decide to buy and install the auto thermostatic fan switch, please let us know how it performs. Many thanks again!!!

Here is where you connect the override switch, there are two connectors at the bottom of the fan housing, connect it to the rear one, earth the other end and hey presto a fon override!

Many thanks for the picture. There are two wires, presume one of them is the live (positive) one. Are the wires coloured coded like the ones you see in applliances? Do I splice it into the existing wire or can i insert the positive wire into positive side of the plastic plug. Many thanks.

I don't think they are coded, both black.  I got a spade connector and sandwiched it in, you can see the blue spade connector at the back.  It is the rear one in the picture! [-/
