I was quite impressed with the way my 126 Bis handled on the motorway. I drove her from the workshop in Canterbury West to North London (A2/M2). It coped very well with the heavy traffic at Canterbury. Once I got to the A2 to M2, she was quite stable and managed to cruise about 70 mph. I felt that it could go well past the 72mph which is the manufacturer's limit on level ground but decided not to. It was quite eager to go faster specially on the downhill stretches. I glanced at the speedometer and it was doing over 75mph, as you know the speedometer maximum speed is 80mph! At the same time, I wanted to keep the momentum, as it sort of decelerated up hill but regained its speed once the road started to level up.The engine was a bit on the noisy side but once you got to 60 to 70mph+ it settled down. I consumed less than a quarter of fuel despite the fact on the up hill, it was pedal to the metal as I found myself competing with heavy trucks. I also found myself the star attraction and drew a lot of curious looks and some smiles. I was astonished by the behaiviour of some motorists who placed themselves and others at risk by driving alongside me or behind me for couple of minutes, as if they have not seen a 126 before (in retrospect, they probably have not!). I have given my car full marks! I am very pleased with it. Best buy ever.
In the traffic at Canterbury, I noticed that the idling went up and down. There was a clicking noise. When it clicks the idling increased a notch for a for few seconds, it clicks again to normal idling for a couple of minutes and clicks again, so no and so forth. Is this normal? Many thanks!!
