Car entairtainment...
« on: May 15, 2009, 11:38:40 AM »
Well you all know that i am an electro-nut by now, and last night, while i was out a girl in a saxo had louder speakers than me, now we cant have that, can we, im thinking: a sub-woofer box in the back with an amp, and speakers in the doors, now im just wondering, what dimension speakers can one put in the 126 doors, has anyone done this before?

It's all about mounting depth more than speaker diameter. I've seen 6" drivers which are a good 4.5" deep, but I've also seen 8" subwoofers which are only 3" deep. Not sure what the maximum mounting depth would be though, I'm sure a nice set of 6" components in the doors and another set in the rear with a 10" subwoofer would be very nice :D

I know Michael O'Donnell managed to get some speakers in the doors of his 500, so it will definitely be possible for the 126. They have to be very flat though.
I think he may have even posted up a guide on here or the 500 club UK forum. I'll have a look and see if I can find anything.

i do know its about depth of the speakers, thats why i said "dimensions", so thats basically the question... the depth, and where to place them, i was thinking if someone done it before it would be easier, i hate removing and puting back those door cards...  :P
dom, if you manage to find anything, i would be grateful...  [-/

p.s. ekli, i do have speakers in the back, i thought they would be enough, apparently not, plus  i think ill need a amp for them aswell...

ive had 2 x 8" , 2 x 10" and 2 x 12" in a bis the best were the 10" but i ran the 2 x 8" with an extra underseat subwoofer which sounded very punchy indeed if you make door pods you can put anything in as for running an amp i ran a mono for the subs  and had a four channel running all the speakers for the amount of ampage i had to run with a power cap of 1.5 . and to be honest the drain on the battery was ridiculous if i ran it for too long i didnt have any indicators or windscreenwipers!
its best to stick with running the speakers off the headunit and having a 150watt sub for a single 10" custom made enclosure , dont mount your speakers on the stock parcel shelf get some thick mdf and it will sound so much better if you can enclose the rear of the speakers it will sound even better.

ok, cool, thanx, now just gotta convert to metric...
i dont want to make door pods, im looking for speakers that can fit straight on, all the other stuff looks cheap to me. i did notice that when i close the rear boot the music is much better than with the boot open.
so the plan is one amp for a sub, and two more speakers in the doors, alongside the two in the back and one in the front-right.
im also thinking of changing the sony h.u. for something with a little more kick...
possibly a stronger battery will be needed...
