New plans for my 126p + SU carb ideas
« on: April 19, 2009, 12:54:12 AM »
Hi guys
I have not started a new thread in a while.  Thought i would just kick a few ideas around for my car.  Its current status is garaged while im at uni (im driving a mini at the moment thats my girlfriends sisters who cant drive yet). It still need to fit a few flexible joint but might use those tripod ones.

As i finish this year i thought i would spend some time tidying it up and making some changes.  I also have another very rotten 126 which i may do a 1108 conversion on.

I think i am going to remove the panda head and try to achieve a reliable but possibly slightly tuned engine.  I will take it out so its easier to work on.  Im thinking of installing electronic ignition and maybe disc brakes depending on how other current conversions go (stuey - i may need your help!).  I may have an uprated cam with the standard but improved carb.  Also slightly improved head with hardened valve seats for unleaded.

The car will also undergo some light restoration.  Basically i want it to be really usable and reliable (tall order?!).

One question i do have for now is i was wondering if anyone has successfully used an SU carb on a 126 engine as i know the manifold for the dellorto fzd is the same.  I figure it would be useful to a lot of people as it would be cheap.

Im really looking forward to be driving a 126 again as i havnt since last summer!
Does anyone have any other suggestions for improvements?

:) Hi Tomasz , I was having a chat with an Italian guy form the Fiat 500 Club , called Luigi. He had two (I think he said 695ccs) tuned Fiat 500s there & one had an 1 1/4" SU carb from a Morris minor fitted & he said it worked very well.

Thanks stuey, i have just got in touch with trs to get a full price list.  I amy also look into doing some distribution here for them so the disc brakes may me something i do early on!

I may have to get in touch with this luigi fella, it would be great to work out a reliable way of making it work. I dont suppose you have his contact details? Thanks

Only met the guy once so far . His cars were nice but also well used as I think he loved to drive them & the driver of his second car was described as his mechanic. I know that he runs and/or runs a Pizza restuarant in Archway about half way down the long hill on the A1. I was surprised to see an SU carb on the little Fiat engine but it seemed to sit OK . If you have got the flange details on your manifold I can compare it with the SU carbs I have in the garage.  [-/
