I would go with the drill headlight option, you should have no more future trouble with mot's etc.

I would drill with caution though  in case you damage reflector or something?

I may have an old reflector shell with a sidelight fitting if you need a picture let me know?

Wiring is easy like said by someone just divert the sidelight poer lead to the new headlight side light fitting.
