And now it's the Alternator problem
« on: November 27, 2006, 06:03:09 PM »
Latest problem seems to be alternator based. Lights seemed dim, indicators only worked slowly when nothing else electrical was on and now the battery is down to 11.3 volts and will barely turn the starter.
Checked the alternator output and its only giving just over 11 volts! Belt seems tight and I've  double checked the earth strap to the body.
I don't get a generator light but never have so assume the bulbs blown.
Any ideas much appreciated before I bring out the petrol and torch the bloody thing!

well you sure the gen bulb isnt out? which is reason why your not seeing light show up on dash? what car ist it? early 126? these go quite easily, so prob is the dyanamo/alternator.

but could also be starter motor draining the power?

There was never any light on before when it was running the old motor with dynamo so there may never have been a bulb in. Having changed the wiring to suit the alternator would this now cause a charging problem and what output would you expect from an alternator?
Meant to say it's a 500 but the engine is a recon from Italy so no 126 killed!
