As a recent immigrant to Krakow I've decided that I'll need some wheels. On my previous visits to Poland I've always found the fiat 126 to be a charming little run around and to be fair, there's no shortage of them here in Poland!

I'll be looking to make a purchase in the new year at some point but would really like to know if this forum (or anywhere else for that matter) has a buyers guide/things to look out for/makes models etc I'd be eternally grateful!

I'll research this site and webpage that it belongs to thoroughly, but if there is a buyers guide, i'd love to know where it is!

Hello all!

I know, its a bit daft replying to my own thread, but having done some research it seems that the 126 bis is the way to go.

How are these identified? Is it simply a case of having the bis badge on the back?

Are there any things I should be looking out for when giving the car the once over before purchase?

Once again, thanks in advance for any help!

Have found a number of threads about the bis. Seems that it's rather unloved (or at least fun poked at it ) why's that?

hi and welcome!..........i would go for the aircooled if i were you,they are very reliable,the BIS is more powerfull and has better loading (tailgate),but if you get a 'wrong un' you'll regret it,in good nick and well looked after they are ok tho..........but the choice is yours......

i may be wrong but wasn't the bis only made for export, with the later aircooled 126 was built for home market only. therefor the only choise would be a aircooled

You are Poland! Bis parts will be hard to find, they were really not popular.
There are thousands of great 126s in Poland. Look on Allegro, go to any of the 126 Polish sites. You will pick up a decent 126 for 600-1000Zloty.

Honestly, don't get a BIS in Poland. I lived there 13 years, looking for Bis parts for people.
I assume you are English, remember if you drive a 126 in poland people will treat you like poo. they will not understand why an English man is so poor and needs to drive a rubbish car. (Polish thoughts not mine)

I was hoping you'd reply, I've read your posts on polandpoland with interest, I suppose it was no suprose to see you on the 126 site.

Interesting thought about being treated poorly 'cos I have a 126. It was one of those versus an all singing and dancing bus card, seeming a neither of them will do you any good out of the city limits.

wouldn't say they where no good out of town, i used to use an aircooled 126 (Italian Built) to drive to work every day including 25 miles on dual carrigways, often with 4 and occasionally 5 big guys in it (yes 5, bit of a squeeze but just possible) one of the passengers needed the roof open as he was over 6 foot, but it even got up to 70 after a long run and went of the clock on long downhill stretches. mechanically the car was great but it eventually went the same way as most 70s itallian cars (it rusted).

I would go for an air cooled as well but the bis is nippier.I use mine every day and love it and I work in an Aston Martin dealership (no I'm not insane) :shock:

Hello Simon... I would definitely go for an aircooled one. I had a few 126's in Poland and only one watercooled one... and to be honest I would never buy it again. Fortunately most of the 126's in Poland are aircolled and you shouldn't have any problem to buy one of these. This car is still very cheap in Poland, the parts are cheap as chips and very cheap to insure and maintaine. Do not worry about another people... They wouldn't think you're poor because you have a fiat 126.... They will think you are ...different ...and for the f**k sake if you really like this car f**k everything, have fun and be different.
