yeah chris has suggested fuel pump as well, but i just wanted to know the best way to try what is the best engine.ive needed a new gearbox anyway so dropped both.just dont trust millage on fsm as its exactly 17k,came from a good source but find it hard to trust people.my other aircooleds only done 26k.

you know,i've never looked at milage on a car i've bought? i buy on condition only.
chris's a/cooled has 90k or something on the clock and still ok?,but i have a scrap bis in the yard with 19,000 only..........
if the motor is out of the car,the only check you have really is oil condition, does it smell/look bad?..is the filter fully clogged??,drain the oil into a clean container and check for silver/grey bits.....
