Hi all,
I have a Fiat 500 related question, which I hope is OK - my car is from 1969 and is fitted with a synchronized gearbox, presumably from a Fiat 126. This forum seemed to be the most active of all classic Fiat forums I've found through Google.
I've bought the car together with a friend of mine a few months ago and after giving it some TLC it became road legal last week!
Today, the following happened: we had to reverse down a road for a bit, hitting about 30 km/h. As soon as I pressed the clutch without touching the brakes, the rear wheels blocked completely causing the car to stop so violently the engine hood flew open and the tyres were screeching on the asphalt. It scared the hell out of both of us and it happened again after we tried to replicate it (a bit slower this time..).
Is there anyone out here who can explain what happened? Did we do something really stupid we aren't aware of (like driving in reverse that fast) or is it some known issue in the 126 gearbox? Thanks for your replies!
