water cooled vs aircooled

watch out for a battle.

i think aircooled are easyer to work on but the bis is a little faster when stock.
maintanance and performance parts more easily available for aircooled.

other than that they're pretty much the same. i'm sure some will beg to differ.

anyway as far as i no ....(not much).... performance upgrades are a lot harder to come by for the bis than for the aircooled. for example the exhaust, you can pick many up on ebay whether it be british german or polish ebay. but i am still yet to find a bis sports exhaust. i have been advised by the elders  [-/ on this site to go a specialist who might be able to make one for me .

Im really not going over this discussion again, if youre a bit lazy to browse the forum we had a discussion like this a while back, let me just quote my expaination of things:

Hmm... lets see, a cold morning, you sit in your bed, youve installed an remote engine starter on your BIS, just push the button, you hear a quiet yet lovely sound outside, you get ready for work, sit in the car and push that little thingy on the centre console and the little front rad is hot in a few secs, you push down the choke (which you left up the night before ) and youre on your way, during the drive a little rain is falling, so you turn on your intermittent wipers and spray some washing liquid via an electric motor.... youre at work... youre going home and decide to stop for shopping.. no probs... you open the front trunk... 55l capacity is not nearly enough for the stuff.. you open the back trunk 110 l more is ok but can t fit that new LCD tv you bought for your bathroom ( again) so you flip down the seats and got 550 l cargo space (same as the new Å koda octavia  ) and its all in... you happily puff home, ofcourse its night already, so your h4 lights shine as brightly as the sun, and those huge speakers in the back shelf hum a happy tune... so is the life of a bis owner, so what if you have to spend a month per year under the car... you enjoy getting your hands dirty... ...

... its morning again, a few days ago you sold your bis and bought an early air cooled, becouse these were ever so manly and rare, and classic... you couldnt install the remote control start cos the system cant pull that starter lever, you get out of the house, freezing, start the car, go back in to get ready, you left the choke up so its DAMN NOISY outside, youve voken up the neighbourhood, you get into the car and set off to work, open that simple flap in the floor to let in the pleasures of heated oil fumes combined with the exhaust (what joy), the tiny 599cc engine is givin everything its got but its just too damn slow, its raining again but your wipers either work too fast or not at all, you try to squirt some liquid on the windshield but the button is broken and you get the liquid on the new carpets (the old ones were soo damn old you had to replace em)... youre at work... going home... all your collegues wonder why the engine is soo loud and if its broken... going for the shopping... 55l in the front- a few yoghurts... flip the back seats and fit 2 six packs in... but where do we put a plasma tv for the bedroom??? the roof why not... so youre rumbling home... its dark outside and the bilux lights can barely keep you on the road, your old 12" wheels are damn slippery so you go slower than slow, no way to hear the stereo speaker in the glove compartment... youve gotten home, the engine is damn near melting point cos the thermostat flap didnt opet (youve removed the bis thermostat ).. your plasma is dead from the rain and short circuits, the six pack explodes from the shaking... a disaster... then, you wish you had that BISSY back... but the current owner blew the headgasket and had her scrapped... so youre stuck with a useless classic...

p.s. the author loves all 126es, be they air cooled or water cooled, but is sure the watercooleds are better
