1997 elx engine/exhaust management control thingy?
« on: November 03, 2016, 07:38:22 AM »
Hi Fiat lovers. My very first post on this forum, but i have been here for a while now :)

I have imported a 1997 Fiat 126 & the MOT/authorities claim is should/must have a catalytic converter & oxygen sensor controlled fuel management. This car has none of the mentioned & never had.
I know the cat. converter was introduced in 1997 but not in implemented this model at this time. The Swedish authorities thou claim it must have it for me to register it in Sweden. Great
I´m now integrating a cat into the exhaust system & a friend is building a control module to regulate air with the help of a narrow band oxygen sensor.
When measuring the exhaust gases i noticed that it is not that hard to maintain lambda=1,0. Not even at 2000rpm was it hard to keep the correct value just by briefly letting air in :)
So, while figuring out how to solve the problem i noticed this (upper left corner red circle): It seems to be an electrically controlled valve with possibilities to let air in to the air/fuel mixture beneath the carburetor. One of the wires run down to the ignition module.

Can anyone tell me if this valve is active & how it is supposed to work? What controls it?

Thank you
