Advice on avoiding break downs
« on: May 25, 2015, 07:30:18 AM »
Hi folks
Went out in my 126 bis yesterday and broke down.
No spark etc. Turned out to be bad points. All fixed now.
However I've changed plugs, points, ht leads and condenser = all good BUT I can't find a coil.
Does the bis have one or work differently?
Also what else should I be changing to avoid future 'stoppages?
Cheers

Glad you got back on the road :) the coil is located in the far right hand corner of the engine bay sort of behind the carb. Just follow the HT leads back and you'll find it. As for reliability just keep up on regular maintainance like checking the plugs and points (re gap if necessary) and if you have a timing light check the timing. Also make sure the coolant is to the top - that's very important as they boil over quickly if neglected

Hi
Thanks for reply.
In that corner in stead of a coil there is a something that has two small wires and the two ht leads attached ??
Wonder if thats a replacment for a coil?
Just ordred new hoses and a petrol pump just in case.
;)

This is the coil, connections are HT leads, blue wire is feed from ignition, black goes to distributor if I remember correctly. Its 's a wasted spark system, both plugs spark at the same time.

Cheers for that. I noticed both sparks fired together n now I know why.
Have decided to re-new anything that looks a bit old that attaches to the engine. As the engine is new ish seems daft to me not to.
Plus its all part of the fun n learning.......
