Hehe, it's okay, I forget there aren't only aircooled's around! ;)

So what IS the plural of Bis? Bis's? Bi? Bees? ;D
Lina - as in Lyna - as in dustbin liner, eye liner, ocean going... etc!

Bis is again in French. There is no British plural of again, so I have to assume (because I have no idea) that there isn't a french one. Again and again. BisBis?
As Bis is shouted instead of encore in France, I suppose a group of bi should be called an Appreciation of Bi. Which now sounds like it means something else.

Hahahah ;D Brilliant!

Although BisBis implies only two Bi, so for clarity's sake, the number could be stated mathematically:

Bisn, where n= howmanyleft.com

hi when you took apart the carb did you replace the float as if may be that float is possibly punctured and is filling up with fuel and could make for a rough working carb, if you take the carb apart and give the float a shake you may hear liquid inside if so replace with a new float also its pretty important to reset the float to the right settings to get it working correctly.

Hi Bis13, I really only glanced at the float when I had it out, but it didn't seem to have any fluid in it, nor any damage.  But that could still be my problem, yes.  I did adjust the float level to what it should be in the book, but I must admit, had a bugger of a time measuring it!  Is there any 'knack' for measuring the float level?

Cheers for the input!

Problem.  Solved.  :D

I'm still not 100% sure of what cured it/caused it but it was something in the original carb, or because one nut was a bit loose holding down the carb and spacer, or fuel air mix.  Probably a combination of them all.

I went for the refurb carb in the end, from ebay, and fitted it this morning. Made sure the nuts were done up super-tight, as one had come loose.  Took off the spacer, cleaned it right up, checked it over for cracks and put it back on with new gasket.  Flat spot was still there. :(
Played with the fuel air mix a bit, and suddenly seemed to find a 'sweet spot' at about 2 - 2 1/4 turns out - a tiny bit either way, and there's the flat spot!  It really is about tiny movements to find the place that gives no flat spot - turn too far one way or the other and you've missed it!
But there are no grumbles at speed like there was too, no hesitation if you take your foot off the throttle then put it back on... very happy Lina!!
Not sure what speed I took it up to, as, ahem, speedo's not working at mo, but took it for a good run... all good. :D

Love my car today!  LOL  Gonna head out in a while, put some banging tunes on the stereo and show those boy racers how it's done (on the corners anyway)... lol  :P

Thanks everyone, for all your help!! ;D

Good news then Lina  :)
I was thinking of you on Thursday as I rebuilt the carb on my 126 after having what I think were some fuel/running issues. Apart from the outside being caked in crud inside it was quite clean and very little residue in the float chamber. The inlet cut off valve and the brass float pivot pin were very worn. The bakelite spacer was OK but gaskets top & bottom were a bit suspect and may have been drawing air especially as the flange at the base of the carb was the worse I had seen on a 28IMB carb, it rocked  :o but not in that cool sort of way. I am used to this on the not so robust 26IMB carbs on the 500 engines but I think that the engine maust have run at some time with the carb loose. Pretty easy to flat it off with some wet or dry on a granite work top. Also found that the idle mixture screw was set at about 6.5 turns out but now set to about 2. Only done local runs so far but the signs are looking good.

Thanks all for your comments!  It's really wonderful the learning and sense of achievement I get from this car :D

It's encouraged me to go out and put the clear lenses on my front indicators, do an engine oil change and flush, check my gearbox linkage and finally get round to fitting my cigarette lighter!!  Whoo hoo!  I have POWER!! ;D lol
