American in Hungary new to 126
« on: November 04, 2010, 08:28:02 PM »
Hi all, I'm picking up my 1986 126P this coming Sunday. Well that is if it's in the condition described and represented in the photos. Any advice from the experts around here of things I should look out for or specific things I should check. As stated in the subject I'm an american so I have no experience with these little cars. In the states I was into vintage VW's "67 Fastback, 65 Bug and 62 Double Cab" so I'm good at messing about with old cars but no nothing of Fiats.

Thanks for any advice and if I get the little guy I'll be sure to post lots of pics.

Rust, rust, rust,. take a weak magnet, try the sills, base of windshield, bottoms of doors, take out the spare wheel and check where it sits, very often rotten.

Saying all of that, are you after a car to use or show? :undecided2:

Drive the car and you will fall in love with it, parts are cheap and easy to find in Hungary.

good luck and welcome.

thanks daj,

I'm looking for a daily driver to toy around with.

Actually I was just reviewing the pics again and I see he has a club 126 sticker in the window. Anyone here know this car?

Looks quit nice. You will know how it really is once you checked it over. Make sure the underneath is solid including suspension arms. Lots of these cars have been used during the winter and it can take its tolls.
The seller says, the car is in factory condition, but you can clearly see the front and the doors are repainted, so make sure all is decent. Plenty of cars to choose from out there and for reasonable prices.
Good luck, and let us know how you get on.

I'm not sure. My girlfriend is translating back and forth so details are getting hard to grasp. I'll know more after I see it myself this weekend.

So I bought the car but due to logistics I wont pick it up until Tuesday night. Also ordered the Haynes Manual from Amazon. Is there anything else you guys would recommend I get or things I should immediately upgrade?
