First thing is to make sure your motor is in good tune!
Timing, spark plugs, contact points etc;
The battery must also be in top shape, any dodgy batteries will show up in the cold weather which will mean reduced cranking speed and a poor ignition spark.
Some tips from the good old days:
Before parking your car up for the night, pull the choke out and let the engine run for a few seconds, before shutting the engine off.
You can also cover the engine up with a cover such as an old blanket, dont forget to take it off in the morning though!
