Engine tuning on late model 126p

Hello,

I have just procured a 126p and managed to get her in one piece (bar some minor incidents) the, close to, 1000 miles from Poznan to Stockholm. (you can read all about it on www.thecartorialist.com)

I was wondering what I may do for some easy tuning of the engine? I'd much rather have her reliable than fast. She aleady does 80 mp/h on a flat motorway.
She's a model year 2000 but already has 100'000 miles on her. She starts up immediately and everything on her works just fine.

Should I have someone take apart the engine and go over all the moving parts or just go until something breaks?

well if you are happy already then leave it as it is, the tuning side can make the car more unreliable as if you do it properly then the car will not tolerate sitting in traffic well as the heat will get to it. try the air filter / exhaust route to try and get a bit more out of a standard engine.

Bis13 is well right, these engines on a late model aren't specialy good for half tunning. If you don't decide for an make-over the best thing is filter and half-empty exhaust (sport-tourer one) or empty racing one but this will exclude you from road use :)

There is a list of small things you can improve on one of our Polish forums - will look for it and try to make a shortcut in english, maybe something will be usefull.

If that little engine has done the mileage you say and is still running sweet then short of a total rebuild I would leave it alone , normal service and  make sure you have the best quality oils in engine & box.  [-/

more thru-flow pipe helps a bit, better carb and electronic ignition.

That'll increase performanc a bit.
'84 aircooled 126 & 500F still in kit form
