Engines out!
« on: May 11, 2012, 08:04:20 PM »
Ok the engine is out of the BIS.  Going to repair stripped thread tomorrow.  Anything else worth doing while it's out, worth changing the clutch?

I'd go with if it ain't broke don't fix it! Unless your clutch is worn then leave it alone!
one resprayed and another arrives- double trouble BIS style!!

My clutch works fine, how do I know if it is worn?

It not working properly is usually a good indicator  :D
Someone on here probably knows how thick a new one is, and how thick a past it one is.
If you are comfortable removing the engine, leave the clutch well alone until you need to.

I recently had to have the head skimmed on my bis but my mate broke two of the exhaust bolts (I'm not blaming him, it would of happed I did it).  Anyway my engine's got to come out and I am panicking.
How easy was it to drop the engine?
Thanks Col

If it is a BIS it is really easy!  Took me an hour!  Tricky bit is wheeling it out on the trolley jack at the end.

Drain the coolant
Disconnect hoses and electrical connections
Remove air filter
loosen gearbox/engine bolts
Support engine with trolley jack
Undo rear engine mount
Remove rear valence
Remove engine

If I have missed any stage someone correct me.

I usually push the car forward instead, much easier.

That is an excellent idea, never thought of it :$

Also make sure you support the gearbox after engine removal, another jack or a block of wood or something!
