Hey gadge

That seems like alot of metal to me gadge my your brave, ( has visions of exploding flywheel).   Have you had it end over end balanced with the crank rods and pistons? Also with that much metal removed you may encounter clutch vibration due to radial torque transfer across the surface of the now thinned flywheel, I shall be interested to see how this all turns out as my greatest fear is the engine will be very lumpy due the loss of centrifugal momentum given by the heavier flywheel. Fingers Crossed it all turns out rosey Gadge and can't wait for the pics

cheers Doug
Its slow but it does it in style !!

i have taken that ring off mine too......quite modest compared to pics of blitz buggy or some polish flywheels....

mine is fully balenced tho,and using a bis clutch.....

the lightened flywheel is all part of the cam/carb/head set up on mine, the engine was unable to respond to the intake volume with the low compression and heavy fly wheel, (bogging flat spot) now im running as high as i dare 10'5 -ish and cut flywheel,i might fit the motor to see how it goes before i strip and sell it
28-34c and cold beers in the fridge

trust me no one more anxous than me to see it all come togehter. to be honest though, its not that much metal, the flywheel was very heavy in the first place and still has alot of weight to it, but i agree that my worst fear is the " lumpy" affect it might have but i do have another standard flywheel, so if it all goes wrong, its no loss. Think of it as an experiment, someones gotta do it and pass on the info :P  not quite sure on the balancing though, i won't be balancing it with the crank/rods/pistons as i have already assembled the engine, and to be honest, i'm not quite sure it needs it cos the balancing charactaristics hav'nt changed much - i mean its still heavy on one side and light on the other and its not like i've shifted the weight around, its still as it left the factory, just thinner
