Hello to all. I currently have a 1981 De ville, a 1989 Bis, a 1971 500 F but have recently purchased a Moretti 650 Minimax. (A 126 based Mini Moke type thingey) It is still on foreign plates and i was hoping somebody could guide me through the registration process. Apparently i need a letter confirming year of manufacture to obtain an age related plate. I have the chassis number on the vehicle but no other paperwork. Any advice would be appreciated. I would be eternally grateful.

Hi Dean, welcome to the club.
I have imported a couple of cars, if the car is 10 years or older you may escape the dreaded sva test, if the local garage will mot it they put the current reg number on, the first thing i did was to take the cars down for an mot and got a pass certificates, filled out the forms to register the cars and they told me i needed a letter from the manufacturers stating the year of manufacture, took 4 weeks but then it was just a trip down to the local dvla and they allocated a GB number and stamp the current mot with the new number.
do you know if the moretti company is still trading? if so send them a letter for the year and more important the type approval number. if all else fails book the car in for an sva test if it passes take all the paperwork to your local dvla and they'll tell you what to do next.

Hi Pete. Thanks for the reply and also for the welcome.
Unfortunately Moretti ceased trading in the mid 80's. I think this vehicle is early to mid 70's but i don't know exactly. Do you know if they have a HPI or Experian type website in Italy where i would be able to type in chassis number and even the Reg number and hopefully should give me the details i need to know. I don't know how the Italian registration works, what i would do is go to the DVLA site and find out where the nearest SVA testing station is, then give them a call, they should be able to advise you what to do next. when people build kit cars they test them and if they pass give you a SVA certificate. fill in the registration forms and they'll issue you with a Q plate number, get as much information about the SVA test because its quite expensive and more intense than an MOT, Let us know how you get on.

Thanks for all the advice and positive comments guys. I will keep you informed and post some pics as soon as it is looking good. I think it will make a cracking little motor. The roof just lifts off as well as the doors and you can even fold the windscreen down. It even has a really nice set of Mille Miglia Alloys. I would hate to put it onto a Q plate though.
If it was to go on to a Q plate would i then be able to put a private plate on it ?
