Picking up Fiat 126el on Friday (photos)
« on: June 04, 2016, 07:59:56 PM »
Many moons ago I had this Fiat 126, I used it daily and due to the lack of maintenance since new (not my doing) it broke. I didn't have the funds to fix so it was scrapped  >:(

Now bought this one, a 1999 air-cooled 126el - absolutely as new condition with less than 10,000 miles on it. It is LHD and originated from Poland. I was a bit weary of the mileage claim but after a scrutinising inspection in appears genuine. Downside, but growing on me!, is the colour. The photos dont do the GREENness justice. Definitely emerald green. Anyway photos of the car below and look forward to meeting some of you at local rallies.

If it ain't broken, fix it anyway (just because).

Looks clean! I think LHD would be the bigger downside for me though.

Well done! I've just bought 2 same as yours a 1999 one  with 18k miles - same colour green..... Be wary of getting it through the MOT on emissions.....my garage initially failed it due to having no CAT fitted.... The DVLA were next to useless.... All sorted now.... Until next MOT.... My other is a 1988 air cooled import. Mint with 8k miles.... Are you going to Shelsey Walshe in August? I'll be there in my Green one! Be cool to see 2 identical together!

Thanks for the reply Nick

How did you persuade them to pass it without a cat? Would have been great to come down to Shelsey Walshe but would be a 550+ mile round trip for me.

I'm local compared to you 😀, are you driving the 126 there or taking it on a trailer?

I'm driving it, although I think I'll take a rest in my hometown (Renfrewshire) overnight before continuing south of the central belt.

Back on topic though, what tyre size does your 126 have? Could just be the angle, but they look different than the usual 12's

I'll let you know once I pick it up tomorrow, hopefully 13" as want to convert to coil overs and brake discs.
