hello people

new to this as just bought a FIAT 126 based kit car

just wanted to know what oil people use in there aircooled engines?

the haynes manual states 15/40 mineral oil but some seem to use 20/50 classic oils

I was told that its important to use an oil that ends with "40"    e.g 10W40, 15W40 etc.

This is because the engines don't have a proper oil filter - instead they rely on a centrifuge.

If the oil you are using is too 'thick' then the little particles can't be flung out of the oil very easily, so the oil doesn't get filtered so well.

i heard something a bit similar today, was told not to get oil with many additives or detergents in it since there is no filter or it just drag alot of the rubbish from the oil galleries and send it around the engine
