Title: Carb issues
Post by: mintex on June 10, 2015, 10:07:44 PM
Are there any known problems with the weber carb on a bis?

As i go onto second choke its hesitates and splutters, it does pull after but if i put the choke on a little its fine, i was going to take a look at the mixture tomorrow if i get chance.

i also need to adjust my Fast idle as when the cooling fan kicks in the revs go up to 2300 revs lol

I did clean it out and fit new gaskets and a diaphragm the other week but must have missed something lol  :D

You may have an air leak hence why it improves when you pull the choke out. The revs are supposed to rise a bit when the cooling fan kicks in. It has an electric valve that opens up that allows a vaccum to open the throttle very slightly. It's to compensate when the fan kicks in as it draws a lot of current and the engine struggles. Out of the three cars that I've owned none of them have worked so your on to a good thing there :D

On the side of the carb is an adjustment screw so you can set how high you want the revs to rise when the "fast idle" kicks in.

After rebuilding my carb the fast idle was something like 3000 rpm which was annoying because if the car was driving in gear when the fan kicked in then the car would accelerate up the road all on its own.

Turning the adjustment screw as much as it would go got it down to about 1400 rpm fast idle. So then I loosened the screws that hold the diaphragm valve on and pulled it up as much as possible to give the rod a little more travel then locked the screws back down. Now the fast idle is 1000 rpm aprox which I can live with.

Ah cheers mate, i will take a look at it the weekend, as you say its very annoying, if the fans on and im trying to select a gear at a junction it crunches because the revs are up.
