126dave, im not trying to hotrod a 126, just trying to get the most from the aircooled motor without having to go for engine swaps etc like a v8, like you said....leaving a fast disappearing aircooled alone as in it will still be aircooled and would only take an hour or so to revert back to N/A. Also ive chosen the mankiest unloved car for the project.
I'm sure nobody was aiming anything specific at you in the previous thread and that nothing was meant by it.
If i have offended you in anyway i cant apologise enough. On the whole the 126 club seems an incredibly happy place for people to share their knowledge and experiences and it would be a great shame to lose a member of a well established community.
Thanks for your kind wishes
Ross

Enough with the negative waves Morriatry :lol:Boys' we're all here for one thing to have a bit of fun.Just shows you the passion we hold for our wee motors eh?
-
ha ha,just popped in,...you guys slay me...........chris,it wasn't me that gave the finger just my opinion.
no neg vibes from me paul (harbinson)at all,i just dont think slappin a turbo on anythin that stands still long enough is particulary clever thats all.(u seen that retro site?)
why not just nitro it?.........or gut it an stuff a citroen gti motor in?(poor allegro)
im just old school and this site now appears to be new kids on the block i guess.
no hard feelins at all,but i like 126's because of their connection with abarth/500/600's etc, i do not have one as a novelty for the next TESCO carpark meet.
have fun guys....
-
ive got a novelty 126,it can do the funky chicken .nobody told me we were haveing a meet at tescos,at least i can get the shopping in as well .two birds with one stone, god i love this club.
-
Do you not think theese are very niave things to say?
Whats more oldskool than more power for little cash? I agree not everyone wants to go for something new when tuning there cars but not every one wants a mobile chess board either.
But as you say were all entitled to our own opinions.
That retro site as you call it is full of some very clever people and its whole ethos is improving the performance of your classic, hence why there are no narrow minded individuals on there who are opposed to new or different ideas.
Maybe you should tell them your views seeing as you are the NEWEST REGISTERED MEMBER of that site.
Anyhow, must dash as im expected at tescos car park
-
your just jealous dave that i can get more shopping from Tesco in my BIS being a hatchback, and its faster than yours untuned. :D
-
Woof,woof.woof........woof.

Just to throw my hat into the ring.... I've also given my opinions of a turbo - though its nothing to do with puritanism (I'm somewhere in the middle and do what I can to improve my cars - so long as its reversable and not going to kill me) - but I'd love to see someone suceed.
I love 126s and I find wildly souped ones hilarious - but just that. I'm not offended by them or those that rebuild them.
Abarth did to 500s what some here are doing to 126s - get as much speed out of them as possible - by any means necessary. I really can't see that turbos or anything else would have been off their agenda. Weren't Abarth kings of modding and rodding? Some of the late 695s were seriously cheesey and OTT and would have stolen the show outside Tescos. But Abarth were gone by the time the 126 came along, so in a sense any kind of "Abarthising" of a 126 is really just trying to attach some retro glamour on modern day modding.
I'm sure there is room in this club for those who like things they way they were intended by fiat/FSM, and those who like to change them - everyone seems to have rubbed along so far with a healthy dose of sarcasm and humour (infact I've been impressed with how much p*ss ripping some people have been prepared to take). I don't think giving the finger was the wisest thing to do on a forum, just because people can take offence even if none was meant. But I just took it as humour.
I think this club was initially started partly as a response to snobbery in the 500 club, but that club at least isn't snobby about what people do with their own lump of metal. I cringe at what some have done to their cars, but that's just my own personal taste, and I know better than to think "I'm right, they're wrong". That is the path towards some pretty unsavoury attitudes that we have to put up with too often elsewhere in life. But we shoudl all feel free to share our ideas and opinions without feeling like we are walking on eggshells.
I've always liked what 126Dave had to say and this seems a shame, so why not bring your bat and ball back, kick back and enjoy the ride with the rest of us.
When I was younger I wore a badge:
DEMOLISH ALL SERIOUSNESS!
I still think its something I think we should do more often.
BTW - sorry for the length of this post.
-
here here well said , my car is sh1t i love it! your car is a minter you love it ! wheres the problem it would be a bit boring if we were all the same would nt it?
-
top speech there Paul!! Nicely put.
the whole reason some of the posts were deleted was not to put people off from posting, if somebody enjoys tuning and considers turbo's let them discuss it!!!
126dave had said in the past how he doesnt agree with "slagging" people cars, if he doesnt like turbo's then thats fine, but to hound a newcomer for merley stating his interest i think was wrong. Therefore the posts were deleted, i love a bit of freindly sarcasm and rivalry, it makes the world go round. Unfortunatly i didnt read all the posts which were deleted so can only go on what ive been told.
Yes Dave has done some great things and his knowlegde is admired and i hope he will post on here again!
I think youre right Paul if Karl Abarth hadnt died before turbo's really took off he would have, after all look at the new concept low cc cars with turbo's i.e smart cars, turbo's are about using energy that would have been wasted. Whilst at the same time i respect Daves views on moddifying.
as far as im concerned this is playground stuff, after all we are all on here to talk about 126's/500's !!!!

Chris

Sod it lads' i think we need to all get to gether and get hammered.Who's with me
-
paulb,''abarthising'' a 126 for me is what might have happened if fiat had not stopped using there tuning branch like bl did with cooper, its not trying to attatch any glamour to the car........but as i seem to the offender(by populer posts) in this case i shall bow out.......
i have bigger fish to fry than be involved in this,i made a comment based on my opinion and got nailed for it,thanks chris/cars.i will still have my 126's when slammed has got bored/wrecked (first one lasted a week?)his and moved on to whatever next takes his fancy
i shall also bin my folder of info i was putting together for a possible Jersey meet,i do just not feel comfortable with the comments on here.
best wishes from an old school narrow minded naive dave from jersey, keep on 126'ng guys!.............................ps thanks for the positive comments from some of you in PMs
.
-
Dave ignore him, members like that come and go every week. the novilty will ware off when he finds the rotten inner wings
-
whosKARL ARBARTH ?
-
THIS IS SOOOO VERY BORING .....
-
if we all spoke about people with 126'/500's like this we wouldnt have any members to keep the site alive! I think comments are getting personal.
The deletion of threads was to prevent this kind of chat, say your oppinion (with respect) and let the indivdual get on with what they want to do! The club caters for all! We are lucky that the aircooled slammer has bought isnt being scrapped! He may find that lumping a turbo/tuning is not viable. Nobody has criticised your car and aspirations so why should you judge others?
regards
Chris

I think it’s time to close this thread!
I think all opinions have been heard and it’s not what the forum or the club is about.
