hello, I have tried looking for an answer and someone had a similar problem to me but I haven't been able to resolve this.
I changed the oil using 15w40 mineral oil, but in the process I had to replace the oil filter and also get a new timing chain housing. After putting it all back together the car now wont start. I am using a fully charged battery but I can only hear the starter motor but the engine shows no signs of coming to life. I have put in new spark plugs but really don't know where else to turn.
Does anyone have any suggestions on what I should try as I've run out of ideas of what to do.
Thanks!,

Have you checked that the wiring is ok on the distributor? Sound like an electrical problem so maybe you have dislodged something when you removed the timing cover
-
did you only change the housing or did you touch the timing chain as well. if not as said before it's probaby something electrical (points/condenser ect).

Thanks for the help so far, ive had a look today and the problem is definitely that it doesn't spark. I will have a look at the distributer etc, but haven't actually touched these. Is it possible that the engine earth cable could be the issue, I have connected it back to the body as if was before I took if off but it's the only electrical thing I've messed with (except for putting in new spark plugs).
-
Also didn't touch the chain, just literally the cover.
-
Maybe try the old plugs again see if you have a spark on them. Are your leads the right way round?
-
Actually I hadnt thought of that, ill try that tonight. The new plugs could be defective

Bit of an update! I think I've found the problem!! The crankshaft Pulley on my 1999 polish engine was damaged so I replaced it with one I bought of the Internet. I have since found out that on the later models the pulley is different to allow for the electric timing using a hall sensor. I have attached a picture I found on google and drawn on it to demonstrate the difference (red circled bits aren't on the part I bought). Does anyone by chance know which models use this part or ideally anyone who has one/ breaking a car with this part? Thanks everyone!
-
That will be the problem :D if the replacement pulley doesn't have those tabs on then the sensor can't tell where TDC is so it won't spark
-
See you should have started with telling us your one had no distributor ;)
I guess your best bet would be one of the Polish members. See if Piotros can help you source one.
I bet it`s also heavier than a standard pulley as the flywheels are a fair bit heavier on the elx compared to the earlier ac models.

To be honest I didnt know it didnt have a distributor until just recently.

There is three types od pulley with electric ignition. Give me serial number of this pulley. I have in stock one or two pulley's but have to check it.
