Hi All!

I am new. Just wanted to get in touch with You to ask if You have some parts for my maluch. But, as it’s some kind of tradition, I  would like to say something about myself.

I bought my 126p 6 months ago. It’s 1999 so far away from the cult ones, but as these are the most cool, I’ve decided to change some things in my car.

You can see pic’s before/after.

Project is still not finished, that’s why looking for some parts. Hoping, You can help me  ;) You can count on my support as well… in the end, 126p is very popular in Poland and we have lot of parts in very good prices.

Yours show, how little 126 changed over the years.  Chrome bumpers and it looks 20 years older.

I presume that's meant to be a compliment, but at first sight it reads the complete opposite! LoL!

I notice the registration plate is changed too (also the wheels, nice) - I know nothing about licensing cars in Poland, but am keen to learn - can anyone enlighten me? Does the plate go with the driver rather than the car? Does "WS" signify Warsaw as the administrative base or the residence region of the owner? Does Poland have personal plates as we have in the UK ? (I recall years ago a friend in Germany had a form of personal plate on his car, and he told me there are some characters indicating the licensing regional authority that cannot be changed).

Thanks for comments... it's really nice that car can get people around the word closer.

I take it as compliment :) That was the aim of my project.

Regarding licensing... We have no personal lp in Poland. OK, U can have such but this is something extra and U must pay for this... 200 pounds. Then U can choose, what U would like to have on lp... f ex W0 PAJDA. W0 as W is for Mazowieckie (province). It's not M0 as capital od Mazowieckie is Warsaw and that's why it W. That's just how it is. 0 is as it the first PAJDA lp in Mazowieckie. If someone else would like to have PAJDA, then He/SHe would have W1 PAJDA. But as already mentioned, it's something for what we have to pay.

Normally, when someone is buying a car, He/She must go to DMV (Department of Transportation) and register a car. Old lp's must be retuned [only in case if car was bought in different district. Beginning of lp's is assigned to district: WSK to district SoKołowski (W as it's Mazowieckie province, so W)], and new are given to car owner. If car ws bought in the same district, lp's can stay (change is not needed).

As I live in a different district (Wolominski), where lp's begins with WWL (W as it's Mazowieckie, WL is it's WoLomin), I had to return old lp's and I received new ones.

That's how it is in PL with lp's  :) In case of additional questions, don't hesitate to ask  ;)

From what you say, if you moved to live in a different district, you would have to change the registration of your car again - is that correct?

And when you say "Old lp's must be returned", do you mean that you have to physically remove the plates from the vehicle and hand them in at the licensing authority office ? Do you do this in person, or can you send the plates by post?

Looking at the German system (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vehicle_registration_plates_of_Germany) it seems that the plates have to be taken physically to the registration office for a seal to be fixed to them. Also, the German system seems to be changing, and seems to have changed every few years over the past 15 years or so - I thought only the UK did this, but it seems Germany does as well! Is all of Europe in a constant state of change, revising and modifying its vehicle registration systems? It's worse than phone number changes!!

Well, not really. It's recommended, but it's not mandatory. It's mandatory only in case of car sales.

Yes, You have to this in person.

I think, that in era of globalization, lp's could also go this way. Looking on lp's in Poland (same as in DE), You just where from owner is. Which is stupid a bit. Lp's should be helpful to identify owner by Police... that’s it. It could be solved in a different way... f.ex lp's assigned to person, or to car, not to registration office, as it's now in PL.

I agree. Historically in Britain we have a government attitude towards motoring generally that is perverse and hostile, as anyone caught by a speed camera will testify. But anything designed to aid efficiency and progress is generally hampered by legislation for no good reason at all that I can see. In the case of number plates, British plates tell you the age of the car. Under various systems, there are letters to indicate which town the car was first registered in - like, who cares? what does it matter? Do you pay tax to the local town? No. Do you have to change the plates when you move to another area? No. So what exactly is the purpose of the plates - to identify the vehicle, and perhaps the driver. So you'd think that anyone who wants to make the plate as distinctive as possible, something that gets noticed and stands out and grabs attention, would be encouraged...  but no.

One of the rules about personal plates in the UK is that you cannot put a later-year plate on an older car. So you cannot for example put a 2009 plate on a car that was first registered in 1995. But why not? The official reason is that this will confuse buyers and they may buy a car thinking it's a recent model when in fact it's quite old. Frankly, what a complete load of tosh.

Oh dear, I seem to have bought a 1990 Fiat 126 when I thought it was really a 2013 Fiat Punto...

In fact, I looked at the car, I checked all the registration documents, I looked at the service history, and the fact that the interior was worn and the paint work was faded and in all of this I never ever noticed that the car is 23 years older than I thought it was...  but wait, what's this ? Ah, thank goodness - the number plate! Aha, I see from the number plate that this car is actually 23 years older than I thought it was. "Thank you, Mr Government, for preventing me from being a totally incompetent stupid arse by having a carefully coded number plate system that tells me how old the car is.... (but not who owns it or whether it's roadworthy, or taxed, or stolen, or anything else that might actually be useful and pertinent!)

Only one thing: "Do you pay tax to the local town?". Yes, we do pay taxes to the town where we live. Well, portion of our tax, but we do.

BTW. Finaly changed the front emblem and still working on the rear one. Soon will post the pic's.

Car looks :good: will look Great when you have lowered ride height :D
