Title: Lacking Power - max speed about 85km/h… what could it be?
Post by: Bolek on December 08, 2014, 10:52:31 AM
recently picked up a mint 1986 in all original condition.  first owner, absolutely babied.   the condition is a true 9/10 all around.

It has been super well-maintainted but I feel like it is lacking power in terms of acceleration and top end vs. my 98 town version.    but maybe FLs are slower?

I have replaced the spark plugs and wires.  Points are clean.  Car starts when cold, idles and drives great.

Seems to hit a max of about 85km/h on flat ground which seems a bit slow…   what am I missing here?  what else can i check?     do these engines ever get carbon build up from lugging the engine?  The first owner was a nice chap but shifted super early.

It should check the carburetor , air filter and fuel pump . A screwed up on high speed for each gear ?
