Virtually all car filament bulbs can now be had as straight-swap LED equivalents, which generally improve things as they respond faster (ie switch on/off faster), are more robust, and run cooler. A useful improvement to one of my cars was to fit LEDs as the instrument cluster backlighting lights to replace 12V 2.2W filament bulbs which over years hardened and eventually could crack the plastic parts around them from excessive heat. As 2.2W bulbs are not so widely available, a lot of people fitted readily available 2.5W bulbs which of course run even hotter, exacerbating the problem, but the LEDs sorted it all.
You can find "standard" replacements at Amazon, eBay and even Halfrauds stock quite a passable range these days. The only exception is headlamps. Last time I explored (around 2010-ish), a pair of usable headlamps developed for mil spec land rovers were available to special order at around £700 a pair. Quite a few high end models these days offer LED headlamps as an option or standard, and as the technology improves they will come down market at sensible prices.
A few years ago an ordinary handheld LED torch was a joke. Last year I bought one in my local hardware store for £2.99 and it's brilliant - literally! So the technology is maturing very quickly. In 2009 I looked at LED security floodlights for a property and again it was too early. By 2012 they were down in price by around 80% and we fitted a set.
Most car accessory places offer strips of LEDs that you can attach almost anywhere, such as puddle lights or footwell lights, but a good place I've found for something a little out of the ordinary is Stafford Vehicle Components. They do all manner of specials and classics, both LED and filament. Axel Gerstl offer LED rear lights for the 126, and I dare say other major 500/126 suppliers will offer something, places like Ricambi, Middle Barton and so on.
But do remember, if you dress your car up like a Christmas tree you *will* invite comments about the fairy on the top...
