Does anyone know if anyone sells solenoids or solenoid end plate repair kits for the Bis starter motor? One of mine is labelled Lucas LRS00740 but that seems to be quite a rare one and I cannot find out the part number for the appropriate solenoid fitted to it.
Thanks,
Keith

Thanks, will have a look. I was hoping someone might have managed to track down the part number. There are loads of solenoids (and end-plate repair kits) and its possible one would fit. If so, that would be a lot cheaper than sourcing from Germany.
I pulled the starter apart that I had previously removed from the car that often refused to work. Brushes etc all seemed fine. I even desoldered and removed the solenoid end-plate but the movable copper plate and fixed contacts were not too bad (though lovely and shiny now). There was a lot of corrosion to the nuts on the terminal posts so I wonder if that could have been the problem? Regardless, the one on the car refused to work for a couple of times last week (its been fine for 3 months) so I need to track this fault down. Hopefully, the "rebuilt" starter will be OK when swapped. I'd be happier to have a new solenoid to swap in though....

Or this perhaps?

Yes, thanks, the second one is what I need but that is not cheap. However, all I really need is the end-plate repair kit. There are ones on ebay much cheaper but I'm not sure if they would fit;

In the early years of 126bis ownership i had to replace 2 solenoids, there was nothing wrong with the starter motors, I put it down to the excessive cranking to fill the carb with petrol haven't had a problem since fitting the electric pump, You can test them by bypassing the solenoid and putting a 12volt supply on the wire that goes into the starter from the solenoid, the solenoid is the same on both the aircooled and bis ;)

Cheers! I did look on the 126Fan site but failed to spot the solenoid. The "rebuilt" starter is working fine off the car when I tested it last night. The next time the one on the car acts up I'll swap motors and see how I get on. As you say, the solenoid appears to be the weak link so I'll get one next time I need to place an order.
