Title: New owner, new member
Post by: Growls on May 11, 2014, 08:52:26 AM
Hi,

Just dropping in to say hello.

We got this home last night and plan to restore it for our middle daughter. She's 17 in February which gives us a full 9 months.

Thanks for the welcome lads.

Marc, as far as I can tell, everything is there but we'll find out when it starts going back together.

We should get a good look at it next week and get a list of jobs and parts together.

Hi Chris,

It's 1986 126 "brown", last on the road in 1997.

Shona has an idea of what she wants to do with it so it'll not be restored to original spec. It's got parts from several models so it's a bit of a bitsa. We'll just go with what we've got and see how it turns out.

We've made a start on it and generally i'm pretty happy with what i can see.

We've hit a couple of wee stumbling blocks already though, so i'll start a restoration thread to keep all my questions in the same place. I know very little about these cars, apart from the fact that you could pick them up for £20 when i was a kid, so please chip in, your comments and help will be greatly appreciated.

I think that Shona has got to grow a foot or so she can see out of the windscreen but I can see she is keen by the way she is gripping the steering wheel. Dogs look excited as well, ears pricked and that white tail wagging  ;)
Sure that will be nice and a solid body shell is a big bonus. Late UK aircooled as well so you have got the best engine before Fiat experimented with two cylinders and water cooling  :$

Ha, that's wee Lily, she's got a few years to go before she'll be driving. She's pretty handy with the spanners though.

Having said that, Shona's not a great deal taller.

My 126 is my first car ha. I love it, I'm sure she will too, there is an odd satisfaction when it breaks down and you repair it yourself and keep on driving you dont get from other cars.

Our 126 is about my 50th car, including mercs,, ex police senators, jap import 2.2 Honda, range rover, rwd celica, mental modified stuff and classic cars and coaches.
I wouldn't swap the 126 for any of them.
The main issue with the 126 is facial spasm, from smiling too much whilst driving, only had it three years though, I might stop grinning like a fool when behind the wheel one day.
Shona will hopefully feel the same.
