Hi all. I'm considering a cheapish/quickish winter project involving my 88 Bis. I've seen a few Fire conversions on the Internet, but very little info. Does anyone know if the engines will mate to the bis gearbox as standard. I'm thinking just the 999 cc rather than anything bigger that could chew the standard box up :o Cheers

The Fire engine will not fit a standard 126 gearbox, but there are companies in Poland who do the adapter plates.
The other route people go down is a 600 gearbox coupled to a 903cc engine.

I don't think you'll fit one into a BIS due to the engine compartment cover and rear cross member getting in the way, the air cooled would be a much easier car to adapt though I fact I've seen it done before and they look brill :)

Look into engine swaps in the UK carefully before you start chopping up the 126.

I'm doing a trike and would love to find a more modern engine to mate straight to the bis gear box. Should any one co!e up with a fitting engine. Ild be really please to hear. Even if I fine she it with the 702** later on I wantto tow a small caravan
