Title: Fuel sender float
Post by: gammakeith on March 20, 2014, 06:43:18 PM
The fuel light has been on and the gauge not working since I took the tank off at Christmas.  So I finally bit the bullet and took the tank out again tonight. The fault was not hard to find as the float was nearly full of fuel!  I'm glad I checked while the tank still had fuel in otherwise the float might have drained out and I would probably have missed it!  I don't fancy forking out £60 for a complete new sender one so does anyone know if the floats are available to buy separately anywhere?  I've looked on ebay and Ricambio but no joy   If not, I'm tempted to have a go with a repair as its a small crack where it clips into the arm.  Anyone recommend a petrol resistant glue that will stick to plastic?

Thanks,

Keith

I went at this with two approaches.  The first was the soldering iron to seal the crack in the float followed by melting some extra plastic on top to reinforce.  The second approach was to use a small polypropylene bottle of approximately the right size that I had kicking about.  It had a small screw cap sealed by an o-ring which clamped the bottle nicely against the float arm.  Both survived a night in petrol so it was a case of which to choose  :D  In the end I went for the plastic bottle.  Only time will tell if it was the wise choice........

Dont want to be taking the tank in and out too often. If you dont to do a repair, 126fan do the floats..
