Title: Aluminium blocks above leaf spring
Post by: Scarlettkitten on March 12, 2014, 05:19:13 PM
Anyone know a sure fire way to get those aluminium blocks off above where the leaf spring bolts up. Grrrr they won't shift.

It's the oxidisation of the aluminium . It "welds" them onto the studs. Mine are the same I even tried heat and it didn't even budge! Luckily I have a spare set so I plan to cut them off the body next time

one of the threads has corroded away so I thought if I cut the blocks down 10mm it would give me some more thread below to bolt up to. :(

You'ld also lower the car by 10 mm too  :D which is what I wanna do. Have you tried running a thread chaser/die on it to cut a new thread?

Yep there isn't enough room around it to rotate the die tool :( I can see this lil problem being a pain.

Those blocks are one of the "not so clever" designs on the 500 & 126 cars as they are an invitation to bi-metalic corrosion aided by a nice dose of road salt. They can be impossible to remove without destroying them and a good advert for a slap of thick grease when you fit them.  :)
