Hi,
I've just bought the rally prepped 126, (pictures on 126 forum). I'm planning on doing some forestry events with it, nothing too hilly though.
Looking into engine swaps for something a little meatier, any ideas anyone?
Look forward to replies!
Cheers

Welcome, there is modding but engine swaps are very limited, some poeple on this forum are fitting bike engines. The Skinner brother are famous for drag racing their small block chevy engines in the front of their 126.

I don't think the bis would make a very good rally car due to it's reliabilty problems and lack of power. On the other hand it could make a great hillclimb car with the right engine, probably a bike engine.
For a fiat 500 fitted with a kawasaki 900 motor check out this movie

Does anyone know what engine is best to put in my Bis?
I was thinking of putting a bike engine in after watching that film.
But I have never done anything like this before.
Just wondering is it very hard to get the engine to fit?
Also are there any major problems that need doing in order to fit the engine?
And how much do you estimate it would cost?
If anyone has any advice please let me know.
Thanks,
Adam.

Your talking a whole new rear end
-Cut out the rear seat pan
-Strengthen the bodyshell with roll cage etc.
-Make new spaceframe rear end with mounts for engine suspension
-Make new rear suspension/ axle setup (could probably get away without a diff on a 126)
-new gear linkage, fuel and cooling systems
A very involved job

a roll cage? why is that needed for an engine change? is the shell that weak?

one ive considered is an mr2 rngine... rear engine rear drive not sure on the size though.... 2litre fiat 126 turbo...nice!!

Yes Chris, if you take out the rear seat pan/bulkhead then its going to leave the shell very weak at the rear.
A full roll cage isnt 100% nessicary but it is the easyest way of strengthening the shell. Most people dont relise the main reason to fit a rollcage is for strengthening/stiffening not safety.
