Title: Parking light on the 500F
Post by: Darrell on August 05, 2013, 10:59:40 AM
Is it in the headlamp or in with the indicator on the F?

Darrell do you mean the side light, if so I understand the 500 L and F had the side light in the headlight and the D had it in with the indicator.  Hope this helps.

Hi Ralph yes I meant side light.
Just wondering about ordering headlamps for the 500, I saw both types are available. I expect they will be for LHD  :(

Darrell, yes most new headlights are LHD. There are still some out there though, but hard to find.  Someone in the micro car club has a good stock of headlights.  If I remember correctly the lady has a blue 500.  I have replaced the glass lenses with the old, bit of a fiddle but works.  I have also used headlights out of a triumph, it was a sealed beam with sidelight.  You need to do a bit of work to get all to work. I cut the old reflector to fit round the new sealed beam unit, then had to grind some metal off the chrome surround to get the new unit in, then used the original spring clips to hold it all together. This worked a treat hope this helps.

I did a similar trial conversion using a triumph sealed beam unit . The sealed beam units were really cheap from my local motor factor, less than £15 a pair I believe. I got the ones that have a round clear window under the filaments. Then I found a short piece of rubber hose that was a good fit for the 500 side light bulb holder and super glued a piece on the back of the sealed beam over the window and all worked well  :)
