Is your car air or watercooled?
If you want to do the work any engine can be made to fit. Someone has a v12 Lamborghini engine in an original 500.

Mine is water cooled. Can I have bigger pistons put in and have it bored out and different cam? Also su carb with a turbo

Many thanks Simon.

I don't think they can bored out much. The only possible cam swap I can think of would be from the 704 cinquecento, but the engine turns in the opposite direction so the profile is probably wrong. There is very little that can be done to a BIS tuning wise.

You wuold probably be best searching the forum for engine swaps, the BIS engine bay isn't as tall as the aircooled so will need more cutting about to get most engines in. I would personally look at mounting a bike engine on the standard gearbox, then you have reverse and less faffing with the drivetrain. You might be better off going for a torque engine as opposed to a bhp engine. I would quite like to stick a Harley twin in an aircooled.

I would always look at a twin or a single, maybe a triple but they have cooling issues. A four pot will probably be too wide to fit with the crank inline to the gearbox.

The possibilities seem endless, depending on your bravery... :P

TBH I think you need to get in touch with the guys at Retro Power, they will be able to advise you what is necessary to build a UK legal conversion! Not many members have attempted a project like this.

How about something within these lines?

I`m not a big fan of the bike engine conversions and can`t imagine it will work well with the standard gearbox anyway, unless you go the whole way and do something like Pete put a link to, but it`s not much of a 126 anymore.
