Hay all,
I just joined the forum so I thought I'd better introduce myself.
I'm scotty and I'm in North Derbyshire near Chesterfield and Sheffield.
I've always been into the air-cooled VW scene but I've also had a soft spot for the 126 and after years of not being allowed to have one by the OH, I threatened to have a mid lifer and buy a motorbike so I've got my own way at long last.
I'm yet to find my 126 but ideally I'm looking for a nice little air-cooled (of course).
I've been looking through the forum trying to educate myself a bit more and I must say it seems like a nice place.
I'll not start off by firing out questions (I do have a few) as I just wanted to say hi first.

"SEEK & YE SHALL FIND" :)
YE old Exchange & Mart , chapter 1 , verse 3 ;D
Good luck with your search Scotty

Thank you! ;D
..... and AutoTrader.......and CarAndClassic.......and Ebay......and of course here.
The quest continues.

Welcome to the club. Aircooled VW's are everywhere, the 126 is much rarer and turns heads everywhere.
Good luck in your quest.

Cheers Marc.
I've been keeping an eye on ebay and there seems to be the majority are unregistered Polish ones.
It seems pretty straight forward to register.
I've seen on the ad's that they often mention the Polish MOT and EU insurance.
Does anyone know if this has any relevance to the UK or or is of benefit when buying one?

:welcome to the forum Scotty :thumbup I would look for a U.K. model as the export 126's were better equipped and had better rust protection than the 126's for the home market, As for the Polish Imports this seems to be a grey area, Unless you can inspect a LHD Polish 126 from 1990 onwards I would'nt by blind on sites like Ebay, make sure you check under the carpets as a few members have found rusty floors, inner and outer sills to be rotten. I don't no how the insurance would work over here in the UK, but i suspect unless you are Polish and you are registered there ( have an address in Poland ) you could be on shaky ground if you were involved in an accident, Maybe some of our Polish members can shed some light on this subject, Hope this helps.

Thanks Pete for the insight, and the welcome :)
I would never buy blind to be honest.
I went to see one last year that looked and was described as "good condition".
When I got to the garage I was quite shocked as it was shabby to say the least.
Loads of dents, bubble gum welding, pulp fiction interior and the list goes on.
One good thing was that I get to test drive it (my first time) and I was smiling from ear to ear. ;D
I kind of had it mind to go for an 80's model anyway for some reason.
Are they kind of flakey from the 90's on?
You pretty much confirmed what I thought about the Polish models and insurance/MOT.
Just wondered why they made a point of showing it in the ad's.
I think I read on the DVLA site that it illegal for a UK resident to drive on foreign plates in most cases.
I'll deffo be checking sills when I go to see one and peeling those carpets back.
Thanks again Pete!

In Poland the car is insured not the driver. You have 30 days grace if you buy a car, so you are covered on the insurance, The problem is that you will need the 'Green card' in your name. Problem 2 is that you will need to know the insurance is fully paid and what cover you have.
In the real world, in Poland not really too much of a problem. In the UK the insurance is really worth nothing at all. The EU ;D Polish MOT is also worthless it is not recognized in the UK and is very easy to 'acquire'.
Buy a British car unless you REALLY know what to look for.

Well, as said above I sought and I found. An 88 Bis. (UK car)
Early reports are that both father and baby are doing very well. ;)

good work- I await my slam-gasm! :D

Checking out springs for front end right now but I have a problem to sort first.
Maybe should post in the tech part.
When I get in my Fiat, I notice a slight smirk starts to develop an a feeling of smugness (only in the background). As I continue to drive this seems to get a lot worse an builds into a full on smile and on a drive the other night it got so bad I even chuckled to myself.
I've looked through the manual and it doesn't say anything about this and the Brava deffo doesn't do this.
Is it broken?
My face hurts.

 Unfortunately, it's something we all have to live with.

Welcome aboard, I to was a vdub nut with 2 baja's, 1 fastback & a beach buggy & yes i agree the 126 does give more smiles per mile!!
By the way nice BIS, was it your vw background that tempted you to it with those wheels? Mmmmm?
I also had a lil BIS as my daily driver till I got my van :(
A black metalflake roof would be nice? ;)
