Hello everyone.
I bought a bright orange 1998 126 elx in Poland on Sunday. Drove him straight back to England.
What a great little car!
This is my first non-German car. I'm susprised and amazed by how good it is.
I have a VW and Porsche import business.
But I'm now in love with the Polish Fiat 126!
I'll post a pic and info once I've worked out how.
Cheers :)

47,000km, one owner, always garaged, zero rust!
Better condition than the one we saw in Krakow transport museum the day before :)
I'm a happy man. Great, fun little car.
-
Look on you tube for the Fiat 126 Porsche drag race. :D
Welcome to the club
-
Thanks. I'll look as soon as I'm at a computer.
-
Welcome to the club, and the strange persons rear engined car of choice :D
Both club and cars are brilliant.
-
Welcome to the forum.
It`s great to hear the car drove all the way from Poland without any problems. How long did the journey take you?
Any more photos of the car?
-
Cheers. I agree. They are brilliant cars.
I'll post more pics ASAP. I can't work out how to re-size them on my phone... Images too large to upload.

Great video. Do you know what engine the 126 was running?
We left Krakow on Monday am. Arrived Henley 6 am Wednesday. Stayed overnight in Leipzig.
Cruised at 85kph. No problems. 1650km.
-
I think it was a Rover 3.5 :o
-
Excellent. I have a 1970 Vw camper with a 3.0 Ford V6. Perhaps I could squeeze it in the Fiat! :o
-
hi and welcome , glad to hear that you made that journey in a great little car gives us all a boost to keep them on the road . Lots of help , advice etc on here cheers Pete
-
Cheers Pete, I'm hooked. Great little cars :D
-
Hello and welcome to the forum
We are all here to help
Does this mean you are now hooked on italien cars instead of German :P

Or Polish?
-
Or Polish?

Hello and welcome to the forum!! Your 126 looks quite nice!! Lovely colour!!
-
Hello and welcome to the forum. I'm still in Poland with my 126. 8)
-
Thanks everyone.
Yes, I'm now a fan of Polish cars as well :D
Here's a pic after I gave him a quick wash. Just before he passed the MOT.
-
I noticed you've got headlamp surround protection/cover. Did the car come with it as standard?
-
Yes. Is that unusual?
-
no standart.... this is "anti theft" system ;D.... few years ago lot of headlights was stollen...

Has been stolen? stolen from where? What for? Why somebody could possibly be so desperate to still a headlight from a car?
-
:D The old Irish sense of humour :D

Right, that explain everything ;D
-
No, they were stolen very often, and as it was stolen, it was a big demand, was sell strait away... I had to buy them 3 times.... try take them out with and without that plastic....
-
Interesting. Reminds me of a car radio story. A chap would come to your workplace offering cheap car radios with free fitting. You'd buy one. Show the chap where your car was parked. He'd fit it. Everyone is happy. Then a week or two later everyone in your workplace who bought a radio had their car broken into and radio stolen... Coincidence? I doubt it. He probably kept stealing and selling the same radios! ???

that sounds like very good profitable business ;-)
Getting back to the topic - could you please share the information what else do you need to do in order to register the car? What do you reckon how much it will cost you - the whole registering procedure.
-
Went to the DVLA today. You need to show the MOT, insurance certificate, passport, proof of address, original Polish registration documents and a customs and excise VAT and duty form. The cost is £55 registration fee plus the £135 road tax. They now take 72 hours to check the documents and decide if all is ok. Ill let you know what happens :-)

Like a Tardis ;)

Just back from another 5 days in Poland. Viewed 21 different 126! All one owner, low mileage, garaged vehicles. Great bodies. Really rusty floors! Came home empty handed. And slightly confused as to why the floors rust so easily. Insane. Even more happy with mine now :D The floor is like new!
-
I think it`s got loads to do with the salty roads in winter. The winters in Poland are much harder and these cars are used all year round.
I`ve seen them with rusted through rear suspension arms :(

Totally agree. A lot of salt and grit goes on the roads.
The reason your floor looks new is maybe it is ;) Floor panels are not very expensive.
-
I guess you're correct. Salt and condensation when left in damp garages. Lucky mine wasn't used in the winter! Shame though. I was hoping to buy a few rust free ones. Cheers

Your car looks great.
I did the same journey with my car 8 years ago now after my great uncle gave it to me! I had not yet passed my test so my parents did the driving. A great roadtrip!
-
Ahh Dan Vockins..... so now you have moved to importing Fiat's as well... are you following me?
-
Hahahaha thats adventure i remember when i was young whole my family was traveling from south of poland to sea side 700 km in one day (no motorways) two adults two-kids roof rack dog and 126 design camping trailer.

no standart.... this is "anti theft" system ;D.... few years ago lot of headlights was stollen...
My dad got his first 126P after several years of waiting, in 1975. I went to the store to buy those headlamp protectors, but since it was late I decided to install them next day morning. And, of course, our new car didn't have any headlights next day morning. :o >:(
Headlights where poor quality, rusting after couple of winters and you couldn't buy them, so people were stilling them from, preferably, new cars. But I'm surprised, today anybody still uses that kind of protection, since quality of the lamps improved and it is easy to buy them anyway.
