Title: Price guide needed?
Post by: OLOSTEVE on January 06, 2013, 03:10:41 PM
Could anyone help me  price to buy a 126. 1986, 15,000 miles? Car is complete but no MOT. Looks straight, paint work dull but interior is good. Would appriate any views on what is a reasonable price to pay. Thank you for reading my 1st post. Steve

Hi
RUST, Rust rust. That is what really decides the price. There will be some.  ;D

Check the sills, Bottoms of wings. Floor 'where it meets the sills', pull up the carpets. Under the battery tray ' that will be rusty', but how bad? Bottom of rear screen and windscreen, expect a little where the drain holes always get blocked. Bottoms of doors.

Anything can be fixed with the engine, gearboxes have problems with 1st/reverse gear, they are noisy but should not crunch, grind and pop out of gear.

Check the headlights are not rotten, RHD lights can be hard to find. Don't worry about mileage, these are normally fairly low mileage cars.

Is the car a Bis or aircooled?

Prices range from about £300 for a Polish or rough project up to £4000 for Ferrari editions (  :P :D ;D ;)_
A usable car at the moment about £1000-1500

Thank you for info. I have not seen the car in the tin yet, they are asking £2,400 which I thought on the top side, it is air cooled. It is very difficult now to try and get the car down to the £1500 mark, but it is worth a try once I've found the rust.

Ok for £2400 I would expect the car to be very very good. No rust at all for that money. Is the car totally standard? Any engine mods, brakes upgraded.

Hello and welcome to the forum. Any photographs of the car?

Â£2400 for a Polish 126 with no MOT is definitely too much.

Check this one out. It has been up for sale for over a year now. If I remember it started of on 7k.

That Fiat 126p is also for sale in Car and Classic. It has been advertised for quite a while as well.

Steve , do yourself a favour and just walk away. Even at £1,500 that does not sound like a reasonable buy for a car that has no MOT and if you end up with rust & mechanical issues you could well be looking at £1,500 +++ of work & parts required if you can't fix it yourself. When I first saw your post I was thinking £250 to £400 after you had inspected the car  :)

I guess I have not really been paying attention to prices but i keep being shocked by the amounts being discussed. I think that certainly sound like too much though. If you keep your eye out you can probably find one for much less.

I think your right about prices. 2 years ago I found a, "Mint", 126 £850 but I had just bought an Honda Acty Pickup for £500, which by the way I sold on ebay last March on ebay for £1,610.00
