Title: I can't remove my Bis cylinder head!
Post by: Lewey on March 14, 2006, 07:59:01 PM
I have removed all fastenings from my 126 Bis cylinder head in order to replace the head gasket which is about to cause disaster.  I still have the inlet/carb attached to the head.  I cannot budge either the inlet or the head itself.  I will need to remove the inlet to remove the head as it is all still in the car.

Any ideas?

I have tried tapping (and later on whacking) with a hammer to loosen.

Oh bugger, I think you're right! There is actually a photo in the manual of someone with a spanner inside the inlet.
Talk about too much haste!

This thread may be useful to locate the cylinder head bolts and a revised torque setting.

I got it off eventually after removing the 2 nuts I had missed!!  It was harder to remove than any other head I have done as it was glued to the block.  Very hard to know what to do when you don't want to break your soft cylinder head, but you do need to smack it off!  It took me threee attempts with WD40 soaking in between in the end.  Anyway, it is now skimmed and ready to go back on.  Super.

I was amazed at how much hammering was required after all the fasteners were removed.  Fortunately, I had the good idea of asking you lot before I started to really whack it!

if all the bolts are out, turn the motor over with the plugs in,compression will lift the head and break any seal.............

I had this idea myself and it didn't work for me.  It was able to turn over quite easily.  But bear in mind the gasket had gone in several places.

Now it is all back together I have more problems - I will start a new thread..
