Title: 1990 BIS Mot failed - free to collector
Post by: matthewc on November 23, 2012, 03:23:00 PM
I'm giving away my 126 BIS which I've owned since May this year and has just failed its MOT. I'm inheriting another car, so would rather give this one away as is than sell it. The MOT garage quoted £500 of work that needs doing on it, although may be cheaper than this if you can do it yourself. The car has been running well, so I'd rather see an enthusiast keep it on the road, than it go to scrap or used for parts. Although if there are no takers then I may offer it up to be used for parts.

To pass MOT needs:
L headlight is loose, needs fastening
Welding to n.s inner sill (quoted as £90+VAT)
Replace both front shock absorbers (quoted £185 +VAT)
Replace both rear tyres (quoted for 145/70r13 as unable to locate 135 £42.50 + VAT each)

The throttle has been sticking a bit lately - I bought a carburetor cleaner which I havent got round to trying - it seems there is perhaps a valve blockage, this is a relatively minor problem though I think - it drives ok. Handbrake needs repair - this is very recent problem, in last week.

I'm happy to answer any questions, please email to [email protected], please leave your mobile number if you'd like to discuss by phone.

The car is in Bristol BS6, and I'm looking for it to be collected before the end of the month. It is stored in my driveway (could really do with garage storage - there isn't a whole lot of rust, but problem with sill has resulted just from last few months of being kept outside) - I have it taxed til the end of the month, so would like to hand it over before having to SORN it.

Wow, that is a kind offer. I would take that in an instant if I lived nearer. . . Or offer to do the work for a fraction of that price!

Same here, hopefully someone will take it off your hands and sort it. Amateb8 seems to collect 1990 Bi (is that the correct plural of BIS?) maybe he wants another!

I'm in Bristol for 3 days next week, but couldn't possibly take on another car... :(

A very generous offer though, I hope it goes to a good home...or you change your mind and keep it!  ;)

Hi, someone has arranged to pick up the car already...

Im happy to see it go to an enthusiast, and I'm inheriting another car which Ill need to commute in... not having a garage to store the 126 in, it makes sense to give it away...

Hope to pick up another one in the future at some point when I have a garage, I'm definitely gonna miss it

Hello! Well done. Happy to know that you gave it away to a 126 enthusiast, and not to an opportunist who will break it for parts.

What a kind act, quite sobering...very pleased it's gone to an enthusiast...I was very nearly tempted myself so it's a big relief that it's gone as the missus is already none too pleased about the fleet in the street as it is!  ::)
