Just out of interest I was trying to find out which engine numbers went with each model of the 500s. The earliest one I have here is 1768279 which is the one I have just rebuilt with the 652ccs pistons etc. I think that it probably came from an early 500F.

Ey up, rusty, does this link help?

Quite interesting reading some of those threads , a lot of very early cars seem to survive or turn up in far away places. I have a VIN plate here from a scrap car in New Zealand that had the Chassis No 137259 and engine number 165032. I think that one was a 500N from the dawn of the two cylinder air cooled cars :)

That's right, Rusty, that chassis number corresponds to the 1960 Fiat 500N (I used to have one!) which was in the range of 117658 to 181137 with 63480 models produced for that year. If you still have the N engine and need some spending money then let me know as I know a buyer who is on the hunt for one!

Sadly I only have the VIN plate which kind of fell off into my hand :$ The rest of the car is in the Horopito car yard , North Island, New Zealand. I have visited it twice and it is like no other place on earth. I have posted pics on here before. There were a couple of very early 500s rusting in peace and to be honest if they were in the UK i think they wou;ld have been hauled out long ago :)
