Hi, in September we are travelling to Poland to pick up a 1998 Fiat 126 with 90k km on the clock and driving back through Germany France and then to Ireland in a 7day timeframe. Im wondering what will i need for the trip as in spare parts and how to look after the car on the trip. any help would be great.

Make sure you have the green card, make sure the car is registered in your name or the owner can be contacted if not changed over in Poland ::)
It is a boring drive ??? I did it in a VW camper at 55MPH.
As for parts who knows, Coil, leads, plugs, condensor,.......... Break down cover.

Make sure you have all the roadside safety equipment when driving through France e.g. a disposable NF compliant breathalyser and others (bulb kit, fuse kit, warning triangle, visibility waistcoat, GB sticker, etc.). The porbability of getting stopped checked is less likely if you take the motorway.
What to bring in case of a breakdown, apart from the above usual bits and pieces. A big factor of what to bring in terms of parts is the condition of the car. If it has been maintained well, the journey should be fine.
As David says, you should have the equivalent of the V5 or proof of ownership and insurance. The French will require these documents if you get stopped.

BTW, parts are a lot cheaper in Poland, so take a few back with you if you can!!!

Thanks for the info guys. We plan on taking our time on the trip and take in a few sights along the way in berlin paris etc. The car was bought from a friend of my gfs family. He bought the car from new and he told me that the car was well kept using fiat parts. The car is currently getting the once over before it leaves poland for ireland. will post pictures when i know how!!Thanks again!! Also i bought a Haynes manual covering years 73 - 77 for the 594cc engine. will this do for the 98 model??
