hi all,
long boring winter in melbourne, australia, so a chance to do some more work on my purchase. aiming to do better than our famous swimmers who are getting thrashed over there in the old country ;-(
anyway, am bout to order a heap of parts from the 126fan guy in slovakia. i take it that his parts ar good quality and he is prompt
1. even though the floor lever is shut, i can smell fumes in the cabin, especially if i have the windows open. now, in the workshop manuals, it mentiones some sort of a flap underneath the rear (see p41 of body manual pdf). i can't find it on my car ( '92 fsm), so am thinking about disconnecting the hose from the engine bay. any ideas?
2. i read a bit about the kingpin kits and looks like there's a quality (italian type) with bronze and others. is this true and which ones does 126fan sell
thanks

For the heater control you should have a small lever at the back left of the tunnel to open and close the flap. The fumes generaly come from all the grot that has collected inside the tinware & on the engine over the years. Good time too clean & repaint or powder coat.
If you go for the bronze bushes you will pay a lot more & have to ream them out to fit. The SKfan ones I fitted were precision made and needed no reaming at all ;D
If you do the king pins don't forget the top suspension bushes that will need replacing.
I thought that the Kiwis beating you guys in the soccer first time ever might have hurt more :$

nah, soccer is not a national sport, so no hard feelings
do i have to take the engine out to remove all the tin?

took the cover off and the flap does close with the lever

The smoke could come also from the head gasket if burned or loosen. There are the hollow bolts on the sides of the head to lead out the fumes, so not to enter the cabin through the heating, but still... It could explain the the low compression you have mention in the other topic. Pay attention if those bolts are "whistling".
The oil dirt inside the tin comes from leakages around the seals of the push rod tubes, or the ones underneath the cylinders, or even the rocker cover.

do you mean the pushrod tubes?

Yes!

The red rings are their seals.

And the "strange" bolt.
