Title: Door handle Rod

Can the large rod that runs through the back of the door handle itself be removed?

It can but it is a sod of a job, expect lost knuckles and lots of swearing  :D

Why do you need to remove it? Are you changing the handle?

One of the studs has broken on my stainless handles and don't want to go back to black.  So thought I could swap stainless onto black but rod just don't seem to budge!  Is it clipped in or does it just need drifting out with a big hammer?
