Title: Help!!! Melty light switch!!
Post by: Hazey-n-Marc on May 19, 2012, 09:02:00 PM
Rear lights and dash lights just went out and won't come back on!! Front lights are still working.
Has anyone else had this? Is it a fuse?

Yes proberbly the fuse as each one has a separate.  Or a dodgy light switch, wiggle it as you turn it on and off and thy may come back on!  I have to do this with mine!

Are the dash lights on the same fuse as the rear lights?

It is my light switch, one of posts inside the switch has either worn or melted. Anybody experienced this before? Has anyone got any spare broken binnicle switches (the six switches surrounded the main dash display)?

Cheers

Is this likely to cause a fire? It has all of the correct fuses in place, I swapped all of the 7.5,s around a space in case I had a super fuse.

what light bulbs are you using? could be drawing too much current if they are the  wrong type ,causing things to heat up and melt.

Standard as far as I know,it is the rear light/dash light circuit causing problems. Headlights are standard bulbs.

I am using the top of the rear wiper switch at the moment.

I would say the switch is just worn out.  You can take it to bits and clean it and make it work but in the long run you will need a new one.  I have been after a headlight switch for ages!

Cleaned it out, but the end of one of the plastic posts inside is missing.
I have put the top of the rear wipe/wash switch on for now.
Found a replacement now though. Luckily stuey doesn't need his anymore.
