Title: BIS Gearbox
Post by: craigsven on May 14, 2012, 10:56:24 PM
Hi all, looking for a BIS gearbox, just bought my first 126 and first and reverse seem to have got out and run away. Live south of Glasgow, but happy to pay for carriage, obviously looking for one with all gears present and correct,
Thanks
Craig

Why not repair the one you have, parts can be obtained for first and reverse, and if you are going to take it out.......

Hi Craig, welcome to the world of the 126  :D
The main difference between the air cooled & Bis gearboxes are that the Bis has a higher Diff/final drive ratio and the bell housing is different. The tail end casting on the Bis also has a built in reverse light switch as did some of the later air cooled cars. The good news is that all of the parts are interchangeable . So if you were not brave you should be able to just swop over the bell housing and have a car that is driveable or you could go the whole way and change the diff as well  :)
